Certified Software: Quarterdeck IWare

iware Symantec Service and Support

IWare IPX to IP gateway is software which allows single IP and secure Internet access to your NetWare LAN. TCP/IP needs to be configured on your server only; as the IWare gateway provides IPX to IP translation.

Before you begin setup, gather the following information about your network:

  • Your NetWare server name
  • Your NetWare server IP address
  • Default gateway IP address
  • Your site's domain name
  • Your domain name server's IP address
  • LAN driver name
  • LAN card interrupt number
  • LAN card port value

Please review your Quarterdeck IWare Connect documentation for instructions specific to your NetWare version.

The next step is to setup TCP/IP. If you're using Domain Name Service (DNS) you need to add the following to your resolv.cfg file (i.e., sys:\etc\resolv.cfg):

domain [yourdomain.com]
nameserver [IP address of your Name Resolver]

Additional nameserver's may be added here, if desired.

Add the following to your hosts file (i.e., sys:\etc\hosts):

[NetWare server IP address] [NetWare server name]

If you're not using DNS, you may add all the host names and IP addresses of those machines you wish to communicate with.

Enter the following commands to start TCP/IP.

The first and third commands are listed on multiple lines but should be input on one line.

load [LAN driver name] port=[LAN driver port value] int=[LAN driver interupt number] frame=[ETHERNET_II or Token-ring_snap]

name=ipnet

bind ip to ipnet addr=[NetWare server IP address] gate=[Default gateway IP address]

To make these changes permanent add these commands to your autoexec.ncf file.

Please review Quarterdeck IWare Connect documentation for installing the software, entering license information and starting the server. For more information, click on the IWare box above.
