Netopia 640

Routing with the Netopia 640 for LAN-ISDN Service

Setup Instructions

You can connect the Netopia to an IP network that uses Ethernet as well as an Appletalk network using either IP or LocalTalk.

10BaseT networks can be connected to the Netopia via either of the Etherwave ports or through the AUI port. 10BaseT networks are connected to the Etherwave ports with an RJ45 connector and to the AUI port with a standard 10BaseT transceiver.

Thick and Thin-Net can be connected to the unit's AUI port with a standard 10Base5 or 10Base2 transceiver.

EtherWave networks can also support the Netopia with a 10BaseT cable and an RJ45 connector into the Etherwave port.

Note: You can only connect an Ethernet to either the AUI port or the Etherwave port, not both.

You can also connect your Netopia to a LocalTalk network by connecting the LocalTalk cable into the RJ11 port on the Netopia. Keep in mind that the LocalTalk port on the Netopia is terminated, so it should be the last machine on your LocalTalk network.

Hooking up a Console to the Netopia

To connect a terminal to the Netopia, use a standard serial cable, connecting one end to the Netopia's Console port and the other end to a machine's serial port or modem port, whichever is applicable.

Be sure your emulation software is set to:

  • Emulation... VT100
  • Baud Rate... 9600
  • Bits per Character... 8
  • Stop Bits... 1
  • Parity... No Parity
  • Flow Control... None
