Troubleshooting Guide

LAN Issues

LAN issues arise from the LAN to the Ethernet Interface on the Express 9100 router.

Cannot ping LAN.LAN.LAN.1, the router IP address.

This problem may arise from an incorrect IP address or the Ethernet interface is incorrectly configured. The following steps were taken to solve the issue:

Verify Ethernet Link by looking on the front of the Express 9100 for a link light on the Ethernet module. Perform the same step on the Ethernet hub.

If link light does not exist, verify/modify Ethernet cable and make sure power is being supplied to the router and the hub. In addition, check the monitoring - links submenu for any possible problems.

If the link light exists on both the hub and Ethernet interface of the Express 9100, verify the IP address in the TCP/IP configuration. The IP address is constantly displayed in the upper left corner of the on screen menu system.

If IP address is incorrect, add the correct IP address and remove the incorrect one.

Routing Issues

Routing issues arise from failure to reach a site's IP address known to be up and running.

Cannot ping past the POP, for example, 38.9.211.2.

This is usually caused by a missing default route. This assumes that frame relay is active on both ends of the PVC and both the POP and the Express 9100 router shows the DLCI active.

Verify that the default route points to SER.SER.SER.1, the other end of the PVC's IP address. The Network Routing Table is located under the IP submenu of Protocol and Monitoring.

If default route is correct, verify IP addresses and DLCI settings.

Connectivity Issues

Connectivity issues are usually attributed to misconfigurations or cabling.

The most common issue is Frame Relay down.

First, check the troubleshooting window located under the Local Management menu.

Next, verify the router configuration. If configured properly, check the link light on the WAN port of the Express 9100.

If the link is out, make sure the cable is securely connected. If the WAN cable is secure, exchange cable.
