Setting Up A Phone Book Entry

Double-Click My Computer | Dial-Up Networking

If this is the first entry, you will be prompted to make an entry.




If you already have a phone book entry, click the 'new' button.




Basic Tab

  • Enter Remote Access as the Entry Name.
  • The comment line is optional.
  • Enter the Remote Access telephone number, including the area code that you will be dialing to.
  • Dial using -- choose your modem on this line.


Server Tab

  • Under Dial-up Server Type, choose PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet.



  • Be sure TCP/IP is checked.
  • Be sure that IPX/SPX compatible and NetBEUI are NOT checked.
  • Uncheck Enable software compression.
  • Do NOT check Enable PPP LCP extensions.
  • Click on TCP/IP settings...'.



  1. Click on Server assigned IP address.
  2. Click on Server assigned name server addresses.
  3. Uncheck Use IP header compression.
  4. Check Use default gateway on remote network.
  5. Click OK.


Script Tab

Click None.




Security Tab

Click Accept any authentication including clear text.




X.25 Tab

  • Network should be set to None.
  • All other lines should be blank.

The last step in setting up a phone book entry is to click OK.
