Checking for Multiple Winsock.dll Files

We recommend that you DO NOT use:

  • Custom Connect dialer in the Netmanage Chameleon software.
  • Trumpet Winsock dialer in the SVC Internet Valet software.
  • Frontier dialer in the Frontier SuperHighway software.
  • Quarterdeck dialer in the Quarterdeck Internet Suite software.
  • SPRY dialer in the Internet In A Box software.

Have the Windows NT CD or Disks on hand for the following procedures:

Click Start | Find | Files or Folders

Type: winsock.dll (in the Named Box).

Make sure Look In is set to c:\

Click Find Now.

  • You should have ONE winsock.dll in the \windows\system32 directory (it may be in \winnt\system32).
  • Chameleon's, Trumpet's, Explore's, Compuserve's, Netcom's, etc. winsock.dll should be renamed winsock.old. More than ONE winsock.dll on your hard drive will lead to problems in resolving hostnames.
  • The Windows winsock.dll will equal 3K in size. Make sure it is the correct one!
