Dial-Up Networking with Windows 3.1 (3.x)
Here are the directions to obtain Netscape for PC Windows.
To get the Netscape software, you will need to FTP to ftp.netscape.com
but first you need to make a temporary directory to place the
Netscape files into. ( NOTE: If you want to install Netscape to a different
hard drive replace all the C:\ with that drive.)
Open the Windows File Manager ( found in the Main program group).
Select "File", "Create directory".
Type in C:\NETTEMP and then click "OK"
Next we need to create a directory for the permanent
Netscape files.
So from with File Manager, Select "File", "Create directory",
Type in C:\NETSCAPE and then click "OK"
Now you are ready to download the netscape files.
Open your FTP application and connect to:
ftp2.netscape.com
Note: Due to a limit of connected users to ftp2.netscape.com,
you may want to try ftp3.netscape.com, ftp4.netscape.com,
ftp5.netscape.com, .... ftp8.netscape.com
Username: anonymous
Password: account#@psinet.com
Transfer: Binary
If you want to download Netscape Navigator 2.0, choose 2.0/ (3.0, choose 3.0/ ...etc...)
The filenames for the Windows 3.1 version of Netscape Navigator start with n16.

From within Windows Program Manager, do the following.
5) Uncompress the Netscape files
choose "File", "Run", C:\NETTEMP\[downloaded file].EXE
(* Your window will go blank and expand the Netscape files *)
6) Run the Netscape setup program
choose "File", "Run", C:\NETTEMP\SETUP.EXE
(* This will run the Netscape setup application *)
The setup program will ask you what directory to put the Netscape files
in. Accept the default of C:\NETSCAPE.
Next you will be asked what Program Group you would like
to put the icon into. You can accept the default of the
Netscape program group or you can place it in what ever group
you like. The setup program will then copy the files to the C:\NETSCAPE
directory and add the icon to whatever group you had chosen.

Now you can run Netscape by clicking on the icon.
A good starting point for new Remote Access Users is Remote Access's Home Page.
To get to the home page, select "File", "Open Locations" and at the prompt
type and click OK.
