Interface Rebuild Instructions
1. From the Custom window, select the Interface menu and choose Add...
2. The Add Interface dialog box is displayed.
3. Select the interface type (PPP or ISDN) and type a new interface
name of your choice. (example: Remote Access-PPP)
4. Choose the OK button and a new line entry will be added to the
Custom window for this interface.
General Settings
1. From the Custom window, select the Setup menu and choose Configuration...
2. IP Address: Select the IP Configuration tab from the Configuration
dialog box.
1. The Internet Address (IP Address:): 0.0.0.0
2. The Internet Address (Mask Bits:): 0
3. Use Dynamic Configuration must be unchecked.
3. Host Name: Select the Name Resolution tab from the Configuration dialog box.
1. Host Name: (leave blank)
2. DNS Domain: psinet.com
3. NIS Domain Name: (leave blank)
4. Host Resolution Order: Local -> DNS
5. DNS (Domain Servers): Click Add after each entry.

4. Gateway: Select the Gateway tab from the Configuration dialog box.
1. Gateway: 38.1.1.1
2. Route Entries (Network:): 0.0.0.0
3. Subnet Bits: 0
Communications Settings
5. Port: Select the Port tab from the Configuration dialog box.
1. Select the correct Port: (COM Port) for your modem
2. Data Bits: 8
3. Parity: None
4. Select the desired Baud Rate. For an Remote Access connection,
you must have a 9600 baud modem or higher.
5. Stop Bits: 1
6. Flow Control: CTS/RTS
7. Uncheck: Parity Check, Carrier Detect, & Hardware Reset Modem
6. Dial: Select the Dial tab from the Configuration dialog box.
1. Type the PSINet Remote Access phone number to dial
Note: If a prefix must precede the telephone number you want to dial,
select the Use Prefix Digits check box. Then type the prefix in the
Use Prefix Digits text box.
2. "Open Log When Connecting" should be checked
3. "Signal When Connected" should be checked
4. "Timeout If Not Connected" should be 45 seconds or higher
5. Set Disconnect to Manual
7. Modem: Select the Modem tab from the Configuration dialog box.
To customize your interface configuration to work with your modem,
do the following:
1. Select the appropriate modem type from the Model drop-down list box.
2. Choose the Select button. The Modem Init settings are automatically
displayed for the selected modem in right-hand side of the Modem tab.
Note: If your modem is not listed, selecting Hayes for the modem type
works across most modem types.
8. Login: Select the Login tab from the Configuration dialog box.
1. Type your Remote Access (PSINet assigned) username and password.
2. Startup Command: (leave blank)
3. Script Edit
1. On the Script: line, type: -n
Note: -n will appear in the Expected Prompt during login: line.
This is fine, it should not be deleted.
2. Click DONE
9. Click OK
10. Select File/Save
11. Select File/Exit
12. Reopen Custom & click on Connect to dial/login to your Remote Access account.
