Dial-Up Networking with Windows 3.1 (3.x)

Netmanage Chameleon 4.1

Here are the steps for rebuilding an interface within the Custom application.

  1. In the Custom window, highlight the "Remote Access-PPP" name. Then choose the "Interface" option, and choose "delete". This will delete the Remote Access interface.
  2. Choose the "Interface" option again, and then choose "add...". For the name, enter in psinet-PPP. For the type, enter in PPP. You should see the name, type and IP address of 0.0.0.0 appear at the bottom of the Custom window.
  3. Choose the "Setup" option and then "Domain Name...", and enter in psinet.com.
  4. Choose "Setup" and then "Dial...", and enter the number you'll be dialing into. You may want to increase the timeout period to 90 seconds and make sure that "Signal When Connected" and "Open Log When Connecting" are 'X'ed.
  5. Under "Setup", choose "Login..." and enter your user name and password. Again, there isn't any Startup Command.
  6. Still under "Setup", choose "Modem" and if you already entered in &C1&D2, you will have to enter it again after the ATQ0V1E0M1 initialization string.
  7. Then choose "Port...", select the desired Baud Rate (if you have a 14400 modem, select the 19200 baud rate), and make sure that hardware flow control is on. Data bits should be 8, Stop bits should be 1, and Parity should be set at "None".
  8. Under "Services," choose "Domain Servers" and enter the following IP addresses:

    38.8.219.2
    38.8.220.2

  9. Next, choose "File" and then "Save".
  10. You will now need to edit your slip.ini file which is located in C:\NETMANAG directory. Once you have the file in a text editor, check the entry [Remote Access-PPP]: it should look like this.

    [Remote Access-PPP]
    SCRIPT= -n
    TYPE=PPP

  11. If it doesn't, make the necessary corrections.

  12. You should now be able to connect and run all applications.
