NOTE: No additional changes are required for the telephone number entry unless MLP (2B Channel Access) protocol is used. When using MLP, a second phone number is required in the "Telephone Number" field. The second number is the number for the "B" channel to be connected. Put an ampersand sign ( & ) between the phone numbers. An example of the format is "5551212&5551212". To connect to PSI, you MUST use the same number twice to connect MLP.

Connecting to the Internet

  • Click Dial.
  • Enter Username, Password provided by PSI.
  • Do not enter Domain; leave that field blank.
  • Click Dial. You should then connect succesfully to PSI. Launch your favorite browser or email package at this point to test for connectivity.

A Troubleshooting Tip

Symptom: While dialing you get the error message: "Verifying username and password. Error 718: Timed out waiting for a valid response from the remote PPP peer."

Solution:

  • Double click on Dial-up Networking.
  • Click More.
  • Choose Edit Entry and Modem Properties.
  • Click on the "Server" Tab.
  • Uncheck "Enable PPP LCP extensions".*

* Update -- It appears that SP2 (Service Pack 2) breaks RAS connections using PPP because whether or not the NT workstation selects PPP LCP extensions, PPP LCP extensions will be used in the connection. The problem is solved by applying SP3. (You can download this this information by clicking Service Pack 3.)
