E-mail: TFS Gateway SMTP

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)

SMTP is a TCP/IP mail delivery protocol that delivers mail over the Internet. It uses a very reliable connection-oriented service provided by Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) on UNIX port 25.

The gateway requires that you have Windows running and a TCP/IP protocol installed (TCP/IP Stack).

The TFS SMTP Server listens on port 25 and can receive up to 32 simultaneous connections depending on your hardware.

SMTP Setup in the TCP Administrator

Execute the TFS Administrator and select the menu item.

Internet Domain Name

This is the InterNIC Registered domain name. For example: company.com

The domain name is the key to Internet mail. In order to get your domain name, you must apply to your provider. Often it is the name of your company with an extension. The format is without the @ symbol. Examples:

  • acme.com (in the U.S.)
  • acme.se (in Sweden)

Mail Server IP Address

This is the IP of the geographically nearest our mail relay machine.

If the name server lookup fails to find a valid MX record for the destination domain or the first three attempts to send e-mail fails, the TFS will send the mail to the mail server at this address. If you don't have a suitable mail server, your provider does.

Name Server

This is the name of a Domain Name Server. The TFS gateway uses this server to look up a mail transfer (MX) record to find out which mail server it should send outgoing mail to.

Enter the geographically nearest DNS name server IP address.

Local IP Address

This is the IP address of the machine you're installing the TFS Gateway on.

If it is on an IPX network behind an Instant Internet box, enter its IP address here.

Local Host Name

This is the unique host name assigned in the TCP/IP configuration.
