Setting Up POP3 Mail Clients

E-mail: SLmail for Windows95

Download an evaluation copy of SLmail95.

Open File Manager and find the file that was just downloaded. Double click the file to start the installation program.

Select Yes to proceed.

The Choose Location for SLmail95 window displays.

Click on Next to accept the default location for the SLmail files.

The Setup Type window displays.

Click on Next to accept the Typical program installation.

The Select components window displays.

Click on Next to add the SLmail application to the Startup Group.

The Folder Selection window displays.

Click on Next to accept the SL Products Program Folder.

The files will now be installed.

The SLmail Setup Wizard window displays next.

Verify that the Node Name is the name of the machine that SLmail is being installed on.

Also verify that the IP Address is the correct IP address for the machine.

Click on Next to continue.

Next verify that the correct name server is listed in the Name Server box . This entry should coincide with the first DNS resolver machine that you have listed in your TCP/IP configuration.

Then verify the Smart Host. You may use the IP address or the fully qualified domain name for your location.

Click on Next to continue.

The SLmail95 Registration window displays.

If this is an evaluation copy of the program, enter the following:

  • Serial Number: DEMO
  • Registration Key: DEMO

Otherwise use the Serial Number and Registration Key provided by Seattle Labs Software.

Click on Next to continue.

The Thank you window displays.

After reading the contents of the box, click on Next to continue.

The Setup Complete window displays.

Select Finish to complete the installation and start the SLmail application.

At this point to bring up the SLmail main window, go to the Start menu bar. Click on the SLmail icon and select Open.

The main SLmail95 window displays.

Verify Configuration Settings

Access the Configuration menu and select System.

The System Options window displays.

  • Verify the Local Node name. Make sure that it is the fully qualified domain name for this host.
  • Verify the Smart host.
  • Verify that the local IP address is correct.
  • Verify that the Name Server is correct.
  • Make sure that the Outgoing entry in the Aliases section is the domain name.
    What is in the entry will appear to the right of the '@' in your e-mail address.
  • Make sure that all domains and host names that this machine will accept e-mail for is listed in the Incoming entry of the Aliases section.
    Each entry must be separated by a semicolon. In general you must put the host name and the domain name in this entry.
  • Select OK.

To Add a User Account

Access the Configuration Menu and select Users.

The System Users window displays.

  • Enter a new user id in the User ID box.
  • Click on the User radio button in the User Type box.
  • Enter a username in the UserName box.
  • Enter a new password in the Password box (must be at least 4 characters).
  • Click on the Add button.
  • Select Close.

At this point you must configure your POP3 client to point to the newly created POP3 account on the SLmail server.
