E-mail: Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Connector (IMC)

Microsoft's Internet Mail Connector for Microsoft Exchange Server provides SMTP gateway services for Exchange users.

It is available as a separate product or bundled with Microsoft Exchange Enterprise Edition.

For more information, please see http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/ or for Microsoft's Whitepaper, select the Word document at Planning Your Implementation of Microsoft Exchange Server.

After Exchange and the Internet Mail Connector have been installed, use the following procedure to configure the IMC:

  1. Start the Exchange Administrator, select 'Connections' in the left + pane and double-click 'Internet Mail Connector' in the right pane.
  2. Select the Address Space tab and press the 'New Internet...' button.

When the 'New Internet' button is clicked, a dialog box with two (2) tabs is displayed.

Select the General tab and type an '*' in the E-mail domain field and a "1" in the Cost field.

Leave all entries blank in the Routing Address tab.

Select the Connections tab.

Select Forward all messages to host: and enter the Smart Host in the text box.

  1. Press 'OK' to close the Internet Mail Connector and close the Exchange Administrator.
  2. Stop and restart the Internet Mail Connector service using the Services Control Panel.
